Riohacha is the capital city of the La Guajira department in Colombia. It is located on the Caribbean coast, at the mouth of the Ranchería River.

Riohacha was founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Nikolaus Federmann. It was originally called "San Juan de la Guajira", but the name was changed to Riohacha in the 17th century.

Riohacha is a major port city, and it is also a popular tourist destination. The city is known for its beaches, its colonial architecture, and its Wayuu culture.
