Where World-Famous Coffee Meets 60-Meter Trees & One of the Best Unpaved Roads in Colombia
4 days of coffee country magic • 18.5+ hours of riding • 738km through Colombia's heart • 69% paved, 31% dirt • $750 USD
What happens when you combine Colombia's most iconic waterfall, secret swimming holes with cave waterfalls, 80% of the world's wax palms, and coffee so fresh it's still warm from the roaster? You get four days that perfectly capture why Colombia has become the adventure rider's paradise.
Why This Tour Will Change Your Coffee Forever
This isn't just a ride through pretty countryside. We're talking about a journey that takes you from legendary waterfalls to a hidden valley that holds most of the world's towering wax palms – a place that was closed to tourism for decades and remains gloriously untouched. Plus, you'll drink coffee at the source and understand why Colombian beans have conquered the world.
Day 1: Waterfalls, Swimming Holes, and Reality Checks
Bogotá → Girardot • 4 hours 45 minutes • 141km of scenic escape
We start with a bang at Tequendama Falls – 132 meters (433 feet) of legendary waterfall power plunging into a forested canyon. It's one of Colombia's most iconic natural landmarks and the perfect way to leave the city behind.
Then comes our secret weapon: a hidden swimming hole deep in the mountains with a natural cave, waterfall pouring through the ceiling, and water so clear you'll question if it's real. This is one of our absolute favorite spots in the entire country – the kind of place that makes you grateful you chose adventure over air conditioning.
Tonight: Girardot, where you'll have dinner and process the fact that this was just day one.
Day 2: Into the Wild Palm Kingdom
Girardot → Salento • 6.5 hours • 199km (80% pure off-road adventure)
Today we get serious about dirt. We're talking about a full day of Colombia's most spectacular off-road terrain – high mountain trails, emerald green mountains, deep river valleys, and the kind of riding that reminds you why you started this whole motorcycle obsession.
The crown jewel: Tochecito Wax Palm Forest – a remote sanctuary that holds 80% of the world's wax palms. These are Colombia's national trees, growing up to 60 meters tall, in a valley that was closed to tourism for decades. No crowds, no tour buses, just you and these magnificent giants.
Evening reward: Descending into colorful, Salento where Coffee Region hospitality meets mountain charm.
Day 3: Horses, Palms, and Coffee Science
Salento exploration • Light riding, maximum experience
Today we trade handlebars for horseback, riding through valleys, rivers, and lush countryside that defines this region. Afternoon brings the famous Cocora Valley – home to Colombia's most photographed wax palms and views that look like fantasy landscapes.
Then comes the education: A working coffee farm visit where you'll learn why Colombian beans conquered the world, from growing to harvesting to roasting. Yes, you'll taste it fresh – prepare to ruin regular coffee for yourself forever.
Evening options: Dinner at one of Salento's best restaurants, followed by optional tejo – Colombia's explosive national sport that's exactly as fun as it sounds.
Day 4: The Victory Lap Home
Salento → Bogotá • 6.5 hours • 298km of paved perfection
All pavement today, but don't think that means easy. We're talking sweeping mountain views, endless curves, and high-altitude thrills that make this a worthy finale. The route includes Colombia's longest road tunnel – a surreal contrast to four days of open mountain landscapes.
Final stretch: Descending into Bogotá in late afternoon, arriving at Loco Moto office with stories that'll last for years and a new understanding of why Colombian coffee costs what it does.

Fair Warning About Accommodations

Fair Warning About Colombian Reality
All riding times and distances are approximate because, well, this is Colombia. Sometimes we cruise faster than expected, sometimes we stop every five minutes for photos because the views are too incredible to pass up. And yes, occasionally Mother Nature decides to redecorate the roads with a landslide, which means we get bonus adventure via creative detours. It's all part of the authentic Colombian motorcycle experience – and honestly, some of our best stories come from the days that didn't go exactly as planned.
