Why This Tour Is Our Crown Jewel
This isn't just one of our longer tours - it's the complete Colombian experience. We're talking about everything from 80% of the world's wax palms to natural hot springs beneath Nevado del Ruiz, from coffee farms where you'll taste beans at their source to roads so scenic they're featured in motorcycle magazines worldwide.
Day 1: Waterfalls, Swimming Holes, and Reality Checks
Bogotá → Girardot • 5 hours • 151km of pure paved curves
We start with a bang at Tequendama Falls – 132 meters (433 feet) of legendary waterfall power plunging into a forested canyon. It's one of Colombia's most iconic natural landmarks and the perfect way to leave the city behind. Then comes our secret weapon: a hidden swimming hole deep in the mountains with a natural cave, waterfall pouring through the ceiling, and water so clear you'll question if it's real. This is one of our absolute favorite spots in the entire country – the kind of place that makes you grateful you chose adventure over air conditioning.
Tonight: Girardot, where you'll have dinner and process the fact that this was just day one.
Day 2: Into the Wax Palm Kingdom
Girardot → Salento • 6.5 hours • 199km (70% off-road adventure)
Today we get serious about dirt. We're talking about a full day of Colombia's most spectacular off-road terrain – high mountain trails, emerald green mountains, deep river valleys, and the kind of riding that reminds you why you started this whole motorcycle obsession.
The crown jewel: Tochecito Wax Palm Forest – a remote sanctuary that holds 80% of the world's wax palms. These are Colombia's national trees, growing up to 60 meters tall, in a valley that was closed to tourism for decades. No crowds, no tour buses, just you and these magnificent giants.
Evening reward: Descending into colorful, Salento where Coffee Region hospitality meets mountain charm.
Day 3: The "Rest Day" That's Not Actually Rest
Salento exploration • Maximum experience, minimum handlebars
Today we trade handlebars for horseback riding through valleys, rivers, and lush countryside that defines this region. Afternoon brings the famous Cocora Valley – home to Colombia's most photographed wax palms and views that look like fantasy landscapes.
Then comes the education: A working coffee farm tour where you'll learn why Colombian beans conquered the world, from growing to harvesting to roasting. Yes, you'll taste it fresh – prepare to ruin regular coffee for yourself forever.
Evening: Dinner at one of Salento's best restaurants, followed by optional tejo – Colombia's explosive national sport that's exactly as fun as it sounds.
Day 4: Time Travel to Coffee's Past
Salento → Salamina • 5 hours 45 minutes • 210km of pure paved beauty
Want to see what Salento was like before it became Colombia's number one coffee destination? We've got you covered. Today we're cruising through mountain valleys to Salamina – a perfectly preserved colonial gem that shows you authentic coffee culture without the tourist crowds.
After lunch in town, we're making a detour to San Felix for another spectacular wax palm forest. Because apparently two forests of 60-meter giants wasn't enough to satisfy us.
Day 5: La Ruta de la Lana & The Greatest Ascent on Earth
Salamina → Nevado del Ruiz National Park • 6 hours 30 minutes • 234km
We kick off the day on La Ruta de la Lana, a popular off-road route among Colombian riders that passes through Marulanda, the wool capital of Colombia. Good dirt, good vibes, and the kind of road that reminds you why you came here.
Then we connect with Highway 50 for what riders and cyclists around the world know as "The Greatest Ascent on Earth." Cyclists make the pilgrimage specifically to conquer this climb, the steepest continuous ascent in the world. You'll understand why the moment you're on it. One of the finest roads in all of South America, and today it's yours.
Tonight: Natural hot springs fed directly by volcanic thermal waters. After a day of mountain riding, soaking in these pools beneath a snow-capped volcano is pure magic.
Day 6: The Most Beautiful Road in Colombia
Nevado del Ruiz → Cambao • 6 hours • 195km of high-altitude adventure
We tackle the most beautiful road in Colombia first thing in the morning, when the light is right and the conditions in Nevado del Ruiz National Park are at their finest. Every corner feels like it was designed specifically for motorcycles. Timing is everything, and today we've got it dialed.
After Murillo, we duck off the main road for a fun off-road detour through terrain most riders never see. No agenda, just good dirt and big views.
We end the day at Armero, or what remains of it. In 1985, the eruption of Nevado del Ruiz triggered a lahar that buried the town in minutes, killing more than 20,000 people. Today the site is a memorial, largely left as it was found. A quiet, sobering stop that puts the volcano you just rode through in full perspective.
Night in Cambao at a local hotel, simple, authentic, and perfectly positioned for tomorrow.
Day 7: The Scenic Victory Lap
Cambao → Bogotá • 6 hours 15 minutes • 234km through Colombia's hidden backroads
Starting from Cambao puts us on one of the best paved motorcycle roads in Colombia, the Cambao–Viani corridor, and the curves just keep coming. Most of this route is pure paved perfection, corner after corner through stunning Colombian countryside that makes you wish the ride home lasted longer.
We wind our way through small farm towns as the landscape gradually gives way to civilization, then cross Bogotá in true local fashion because the adventure doesn't officially end until you've survived city traffic.
Final destination: Loco Moto office in Bogotá, where you'll trade stories and realize you've just experienced the complete Colombian adventure.

Fair Warning About Colombian Reality
All riding times and distances are approximate because, well, this is Colombia. Sometimes we cruise faster than expected, sometimes we stop every five minutes for photos because the views are too incredible to pass up. And yes, occasionally Mother Nature decides to redecorate the roads with a landslide, which means we get bonus adventure via creative detours. It's all part of the authentic Colombian motorcycle experience – and honestly, some of our best stories come from the days that didn't go exactly as planned.
